1.08. How to keep my data secure?

To ensure maximum security and convenience follow these best practices:

  1. Encrypt the wallet before entering any important data.
  2. When encrypting the wallet specify a long encryption key (pass-phrase). A phrase longer than 42 characters will make it ultra secure ("a 256 bit key" in computer-speak), if a bit tedious. In practice anything above 10 characters ("a 64 bit key") is secure enough for people who are not being individually targeted.
  3. Make sure to write down that encryption key and hide it some place very safe (such as a deposit box). There is no way to recover this information if the key is lost.
  4. If you are only using phone application, make sure to back up your phone (e.g. use iTunes to backup the iPhone). Alternatively, synchronizing data from the phone to our web site will also create a copy.
  5. If you are using the web site print a copy of your data and save printed copy in a very safe place (such as a deposit box).

If you follow these steps you will have convenient access to your data and ensure it will not get lost or fall into the wrong hands.
